MARVELS OF MYSORE AND MALABAR
A Voyage of Discovery
This thoughtfully crafted journey through Karnataka and Kerala offers an immersive exploration of South India’s rich cultural heritage and biodiverse landscapes. Travelling from the regal city of Mysore to the serene backwaters of Malabar and onward to the historic spice port of Kochi, this 15-day programme is designed for travellers who seek authenticity, beauty, and a deep sense of connection with the places they visit.
Along the way, guests will encounter magnificent temples, rare wildlife, sacred rituals, and unspoilt nature interwoven with local encounters, light adventure, and time to relax. The journey flows through the UNESCO-listed Western Ghats, home to ancient rainforests, tea and coffee estates, and a patchwork of tribal and agrarian communities.
Combining boutique comfort with cultural richness, this is a soulful and unforgettable voyage through the heart of South India.
The journey begins in the lively metropolis of Bangalore, from where you travel to the heritage city of Mysore, famed for its opulent palace, bustling bazaars, and timeless devotion to classical arts and yoga. Here, you’ll explore the grand Mysore Palace, climb the sacred Chamundi Hill, and visit artisan quarters where traditional skills thrive. Continuing south, the landscape shifts to the forested foothills of the Western Ghats as you enter Bandipur National Park, one of India’s finest tiger reserves. A guided safari offers the chance to spot elephants, deer, langurs, and if lucky the elusive tiger. The adventure deepens with a stay in Kabini, nestled beside a vast reservoir on the edge of Nagarhole National Park. Dawn and dusk safaris reveal rich wildlife and stunning forest vistas, and the riverside setting provides a perfect place to unwind in nature.
From the wilderness, the journey winds up into the lush hills of Wayanad, a cool, green region of tribal villages, spice plantations, and tea gardens. Here, you can enjoy gentle walks or cycling through winding country trails, visit prehistoric caves adorned with ancient petroglyphs, and connect with the slower rhythm of rural life. Descending toward the coast, the route enters northern Kerala Malabar, where the cultural landscape becomes especially vibrant. In Payyanur, a quiet town rarely visited by tourists, you’ll witness Theyyam, a powerful ritual dance tradition where local men become deities in trance-like performances. You’ll also visit handloom co-operatives, village temples, and heritage homes that preserve the unique spirit of Malabar.
From here, a highlight of the journey unfolds as you step aboard a traditional Kerala houseboat for a two-day private cruise through the tranquil backwaters of Valiyaparamba. Unlike the crowded routes of central Kerala, this secluded stretch offers silence, birdlife, and timeless village scenes. With a dedicated crew and beautifully appointed cabins, the boat becomes your floating sanctuary. After disembarking, spend two nights in a peaceful beach retreat near Neeleshwar, where time slows to the rhythm of waves. Ayurveda, yoga, or simply doing nothing at all await you.
The journey concludes in Kochi, a city shaped by centuries of global trade, colonial intrigue, and artistic expression. Here, you’ll explore the Fort Kochi district with its mix of Portuguese, Dutch, and British architecture, visit historic synagogues and churches, browse spice markets and art galleries, and enjoy the coastal charm of Kerala’s most cosmopolitan town.
